Welcome to the CTE in the U.P. Wiki!
The photo at the right is the Mackinac Bridge crossing Lake Michigan from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Those of us who live in the Upper Peninsula call it the U.P. It is an abundance of wilderness with Lake Michigan to the South and Lake Superior to the North.

Historically the industry in the U.P. was mining (copper, iron ore), logging, construction trades, and year-round tourism. Not much as change with the industry, or the wilderness. The CTE classes that are offered in our school districts have stayed in those lanes of industry. We have added technology, nursing, and culinary arts in the past few years and plan to continue to offer more opportunities for our youth to develop skills for high-demand, and high-wage careers beyond what their ancestors ever thought possible when they settled in the U.P.

This Wiki is based on the research I have done on Career and Technical Education as a whole. There as some links to Michigan and to my local area, but overall it is about CTE as a whole. All of the information acquired has helped me understand how CTE programs have changed over the years and how our local programs will have to change.
